1 Timothy 4:7-9 Do not misuse time, money or energy by arguing over meaningless and godless ideas or chase old wives tales. Condition yourself in the godly discipline of the heart, mind, and tongue. Exercise is good for the body but is short-lived, Exercise in Godliness is profitable for all things, having the promise of the life which now is, and of that which is to come. “Faithful is the saying, and worthy of all acceptation.”
The reason Paul wrote this letter to Timothy was to encourage him and give him instruction in the faith. The letter was written in 64 AD. Paul was either in Rome or Macedonia when he wrote the letter. Timothy was sent by Paul to Ephesus to counter false teaching in the church of Ephesus.5 The verses 7-9 are written to encourage us to keep healthy in mind, body, and soul. Godliness requires discipline in all aspects of life.
