Let’s look in Gospel of Matthew Chapter 3 ‘ 13 Jesus came from the Galilee area to the Jordan River to be baptized by John. 14 When John saw Jesus he said to him you need to baptize me, I’m not worthy to baptize you” 15 ‘But Jesus said to John, “Let it be done, for we need to do all that God requires” So John agreed to baptize Jesus, he was baptized with many people that day, as John baptised him, Jesus was praying, then all of the sudden heaven was opened and the Holy Spirit descended on him in bodily form like a dove. And a voice came from heaven: “You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.” Now Jesus himself was about thirty years old when he began his ministry.
Let’s look at what Jesus was doing before he was baptized. In Matthew chapter 3 It says he came from Galilee a region in Israel. Nazareth is a town in region of Galilee. How far did Jesus walk to get to his baptism? Well from Nazareth to Bethany, the baptismal site of Jesus it was 77 mi or 130 KM. Next Jesus, was baptized with many other people. John, had baptized people before Jesus baptized. So when it was his turn, Jesus talked to John. John was hesitant to baptize Jesus for he did not feel worthy to baptize him. Do you ever feel your not worthy to do or say something for our Lord Jesus? Jesus talked with John, to give him the courage to baptism him. 15 ‘ Jesus said “Let it be done, for we need to do all that God requires” So John agreed to baptize him.
Jesus, John that both of them need to do what God requires. Once John heard those words he agreed to baptize Jesus. While he waited for John to baptize him what did he do? He was praying. What did Jesus say to John before John agreed to baptize Jesus? We must do all that God requires.
